VLF Cable Testing or very low frequency testing is becoming a market leader in testing XLPE cables, due to the makeup of modern cables with multiple layers of insulation and semi conducting screens, water blocking etc. Traditional DC over voltage testing is not suitable for the modern XLPE and EPR insulated cables and could reduce its service life.

VLF Cable Testing is an AC test which mirrors the sinusoidal waveform providing a positive and negative voltage at a pre-determined frequency. We have the capability to test cables up to 10km in length.

VLF Testing

 DC Pressure Tests are used mainly on paper insulated high voltage cables. Although the cables operate at AC voltage, AC testing is not practical due to the high capacitance within the cables which necessitates AC test sets with a high kVA rating, to enabling the supply of the capacitive current.
